Dell Computer Corp. this week introduced a series of high-availability packages built on clusters of PowerEdge servers running Windows 2000.
Dell, the most aggressive of the major industry-standard server vendors on price, sets the starting price for the packages at $40,000. That configuration uses two dual-processor PowerEdge 2550 servers running Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Included storage in the package consists of a PowerVault 210S for external storage and a PowerVault 120T for tape backup.
The configurations build from there to larger eight-way PowerEdge server clusters running Windows 2000 Datacenter Server.
"The goal of this program is to balance cost, complexity and flexibility of enterprise computing, bringing an easy-to-use availability solution to customers from small businesses to the enterprise," Randy Groves, vice president and general manager of Dell's Enterprise Systems Group, said in a statement.
