Exams 70-290, 70-291 Debut Aug. 14
Microsoft to release key core exams for MCSA/MCSE on Windows Server 2003 track on Thursday.
According to exam objective guides posted early this morning, Microsoft will
be releasing 70-290, Managing and Maintaining a Windows Server 2003 Environment,
and 70-291, Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server
2003 Network Infrastructure, on Thursday. The guides were updated with no fanfare
early Wednesday morning, and followed a quiet updating of the 70-292 exam objective
guide (

Candidates can begin registering for the exams immediately through Prometric
and Vue testing centers. According to the exam guides, they may contain adaptive
testing technology and simulation questions; Microsoft hints that new exams
may include new testing innovations, such as hot areas, drag and place and testlets
(click

Exams 70-290 and 70-291 make up the first of two exams that candidates must
pass in order to satisfy the Core Networking portion of the MCSA on Windows
Server 2003 tracks. Two more exams are needed for the MCSE-Windows 2003's Core
Networking portion; Microsoft will release exams 70-293, Planning and Maintaining
a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure, and 70-294, Planning,
Implementing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory
Infrastructure, on August 28.
Candidates who are already MCSA-Windows 2000 or MCSE-Windows 2000 titleholders
who plan to upgrade their certifications can bypass these exams and, instead,
take Exam 70-292. Passing that exam will automatically earn candidates an MCSA
on Windows Server 2003 title.
