Microsoft updated a free software add-on this week that allows the Microsoft Outlook client to connect to IBM's Lotus Domino messaging and collaboration servers.
The Microsoft Office Outlook Connector for IBM Lotus Domino allows users to connect Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2002 to 5.x and 6.x versions of Domino. In January 2003, Microsoft shipped a similar tool that supported use of Outlook 2002 with Domino Release 5.x.
With the tool, users who need or prefer the Outlook client over the Lotus Notes client can access e-mail, calendar, address book and To Do items from a Domino server.
The client, a 1 MB download, works with Outlook 2002/2003 running on Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
While most customers use a unified stack -- either Domino with Notes or Microsoft Exchange Server with Outlook -- mergers and acquisitions often present organizations with a need for mix-and-match capabilities.
The tool is available here.
