Longhorn Preview Gets Updated

Microsoft readied another preview copy of "Longhorn," code-name for the next generation version of Windows, for attendees of its Windows Hardware Engineering Conference in Seattle this week.

The company last passed out preview code for Longhorn in October at its Professional Developers Conference in Los Angeles. Microsoft said the newer version is to help device manufacturers begin development of native Windows Longhorn device drivers.

The preview comes about a month after Microsoft officials acknowledged that Longhorn delivery is further out than developers were led to expect back in October. The Longhorn delivery schedule has slipped into early 2006, with the first public beta occurring sometime in early 2005.
