Javelina Software on Thursday released a new version of its two-year-old toolkit for Microsoft's Active Directory.
ADvantage version 2.5 fleshes out the company's original intention for the product, to allow administrators to handle more quickly many of the mundane tasks required in Active Directory management.
The original ADvantage product included eleven tools: Add Users, Analyze Access Control Lists (ACLs) in Active Directory, Analyze ACLs on Files and Shares, Delete Users, Modify Users, Reports on User Data, Reset Passwords, Resynch Active Directory, Search and Replace on Active Directory user attributes, Search and Replace on ACLs in Active Directory, and Search and Replace ACLs on Files and Shares.
Since then, Javelina has extended the product's add, modify, delete, reporting and search-and-replace functionality beyond users to encompass computers, groups and contacts within Active Directory. The product also now includes task simulation and task scheduling.
Javelina positions the ability to find and delete unused computer accounts in the Active Directory as one of the most important features of the new version. "Unused computer accounts left in AD can pose a security risk as well as cause a cluttered and inefficient directory," the company said in a statement.
ADvantage 2.5 is available now at $995 per admin copy. It is a free upgrade for customers with a valid customer support contract.
