IT Weekly Roundup, April 1

From the business wires this week: a remote assistance tool for help desk professionals, anti-spam and anti-spyware solutions, and a Windows data recovery tool.

SupportDesk 8.2 from NetworkStreaming, LLC features several new enhancements for the remote assistance tool. Support staff can now access a remote computer as an Administrator, allowing the technician to reboot and reconnect automatically; “push” SupportDesk to a remote system on a LAN or WAN and have the client agent automatically removed at the end of the remote control session; and leverage various reporting options, including the ability to capture the content of chat conversations and file transfers, as well as log the time spent per session. http://www.networkstreaming.com

HACE released the latest version of its anti-spam software, Aggressive Spam Defense, for Windows 98/2000/XP. Version 2.3 New features allow users to control the level of protection; auto delete unwanted spam; and view e-mail in uppercase, normal or lowercase. http://www.hace.us-inc.com

The highlight of PC Tools' anti-spyware solution, Spyware Doctor 3.2, is Keylogger Guard. This new feature protects against programs called keyloggers which record keystrokes when users enter personal information such as passwords and account numbers. Other additions include Startup Guard, a tool that monitors and removes malicious files that try to run automatically at startup, and Multi-browser Cookie Guard, which monitors cookies in popular Web browsers like Mozilla-Firefox. Priced at $29.95. http://www.pctools.com
