Quest Updates Tool for Migrating from NDS to Active Directory
Quest Software is shipping the latest release of a tool designed to simplify migration from Novell NDS to Microsoft Active Directory.
Quest NDS Migrator version 4 adds automatic resource updating and a new graphical user interface. “The prospect of manually re-mapping links and visiting each desktop to update profiles can be daunting [so] we have addressed this with version 4.0,” the Irvine, Calif. company said in a statement.
In addition, version 4.0 touts a new graphical user interface for the Microsoft Access Based Enumeration (ABE) capability in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1. ABE helps increase security by limiting users’ view of sub-folders below the shared folders they are given access to.
Other new features include server-side updating that automatically updates OLE links in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files to reflect file path changes, automatic updating of end user desktops so that profiles, mapped drives and desktop shortcuts continue to work during and after migration, as well as a clean-up option that supports automatically removing Novell clients from end-user desktops.
Pricing for NDS Migrator 4.0 begins at $10 per migrated user account.
