iWay Sells BizTalk Application Adapters to Microsoft

iWay Software, one of the most prolific writers of application adapters for Microsoft's BizTalk Server, sold a bundle of the adapters to Microsoft, the companies said this week.

Microsoft positioned the move as giving customers a single architecture, customer support system and licensing process for key adapters.

"Part of [our commitment to BizTalk Server] is providing adapters for the most commonly used line-of-business applications and technologies," Ted Kummert, corporate vice president of Microsoft's Business Process and Integration Division, said in a statement.

In all, Microsoft acquired eight .NET-based iWay adapters for core third-party business applications and will make them available under Microsoft branding in early 2006. The adapters are for Amdocs, JD Edwards, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Siebel Systems and TIBCO Software. Customers who purchased licenses for the iWay adapters will get a license for the Microsoft version of the adapter with the purchase of Software Assurance.

Kummert added that Microsoft considers adapter-writing partners to continue to be a critical part of the company's strategy for BizTalk. New York-based iWay and other partners will continue to deliver additional adapters. "We look forward to continuing our work with Microsoft," said iWay president John Senor.

Currently, iWay and other partners have written adapters to connect BizTalk to more than 250 applications or technologies.
