From the business wires this week: a beta desktop virtualization software, an e-mail storage software suite and a KVM-over-IP device for remote management of servers.
VMware announced the beta release of
VMware Workstation 5.5,
the latest version of its desktop virtualization software. New features include
64-bit guest support for AMD64 and Intel EM64T with Virtualization Technology
as well as support for 64-bit guest operating systems like Windows, Linux, FreeBSD
and experimental support for 64-bit Solaris x86; two-way Virtual SMP; enhanced
VMware Virtual Machine Importer and command-line interface.

Real Software began shipping Realbasic 2005 for Windows Release 3
this week. The program provides developers with a rapid application development
(RAD) environment, similar to Visual Basic, for creating Windows software. The
latest version features a more stable debugger in Windows, an improved compiler,

Quest Software released its new Quest Storage Suite for Exchange,
which bundles software for traffic analysis and reporting, e-mail storage consolidation
and archival, and e-mail searching. Via the Microsoft Management Console (MMC),
users can access Storage Suites three solutions: MessageStats, Archive Manager
for Exchange and Recovery Manager for Exchange. Priced at $40 per managed mailbox.

Eracent Inc. announced that its EnterpriseAM IT Asset Discovery and
Inventory solution can now integrate with Microsoft Systems Management Server
(SMS), combining the former’s data collection and reporting capabilities

include support for up to four Intel Xeon processors, a 667MHz front-side bus,

for up to five hot-swappable SCSI hard drives. Its Server Manager Software offers
a centralized administrative console, server diagnostics and dead server recovery
