Oracle Ships Plug-Ins for MS Servers

Oracle announced it is shipping seven new plug-ins that lets Microsoft servers to be monitored and managed by Oracle's Grid Control system monitoring package.

The new plug-ins are designed to help reduce joint administration costs in IT shops where customers have both Oracle and Microsoft servers, according to a statement from Redwood Shores, Calif.-based Oracle.

They extend the capabilities of Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control so that IT staff can monitor applications and services on both platforms from a single integrated management environment. The plug-ins provide Grid Control monitoring, service level management, and diagnostic capabilities for .NET Framework and Windows Server System servers.

The idea, says Oracle, is that "improved insight into the performance of .NET and Windows Server System...allows systems administrators to effectively detect and resolve issues in diverse IT environments to deliver a higher quality of service."

For instance, one plug-in monitors Active Directory's performance and configuration data, and simplifies management of applications that use Active Directory as an LDAP server. A second monitors performance data for BizTalk Server transactions, orchestrations and business activity service.

Oracle's plug-in for Microsoft Commerce Server monitors hardware performance, catalogs, pipelines, user profile management and business data in order to help to simplify service level management of Web sites and stores that using Commerce Server. Other plug-ins monitor Microsoft's Internet Information Services, Acceleration and Security Server, the .NET Framework and SQL Server.

"Administrators running mixed Microsoft and Oracle systems can take advantage of Oracle Grid Control's application and service level management, configuration management, grid computing automation and reporting capabilities to streamline complex processes, automate manual tasks and better align IT resources with business objectives," Oracle's statement continues.

Oracle Grid Control's System Monitoring Plug-Ins for Microsoft Windows Server System and .NET Framework are each priced at $1,500 per CPU.
