Apple Offers Help for Exchange/iPhone 4 Synch Issues, Server Slowness
IT administrators and users struggling with issues resulting from synching Microsoft Exchange with the new iPhone 4 operating system now have a workaround.
According to support document TS3398, users have reported synching problems -- either "very slow" synching or none at all -- after updated to the latest version of the iPhone OS, and "some Exchange Server administrators may notice their servers running slowly." The synching issue can affect contacts, calendar items and e-mail.
Apple suggests users follow the instructions given in the support doc to install a "configuration profile" that will "[increase] the amount of time the iOS 4 device will wait for the Exchange Server to respond to its sync requests."
According to the document, titled "iOS 4: Exchange Mail, Contacts, or Calendars may not sync after update," IT administrators suffering from Exchange Server slowness should make sure as many employees as possible install the configuration profile.
The support document doesn't note which versions of Exchange the sync problem may affect.
