SQL Server 2008 R2 Fast Track Edition Updated

Microsoft rolls out configurable reference architectures for SQL Serve at data warehousing conference.

Microsoft has rolled out a new set of reference architectures for partners who develop solutions built on SQL Server 2008 Fast Track Data Warehouse. The company announced the new version earlier this week at the TDWI Conference in Las Vegas.

Essentially, version 3 comes as SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition servers preconfigured with Reference Architectures that can be tweaked and scaled up to handle 80 terabytes of data on one 8-processor system. The server can also be scaled up beyond that through SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse edition, to handle hundreds of terabytes. Microsoft still follows up by validating Fast Track configurations prior to delivery to clients.

Bull, Dell, EMC, HP and IBM currently provide hardware with the Fast Track edition, with other partners to come.
