New Windows Metro Developer Certifications Announced

At TechEd, Microsoft Learning outlined developer-based certfication tracks touting Windows Metro interface.

Like it has recently announced for some of the new, cloud-centric IT certification tracks, Microsoft Learning has outlined tracks for developer-based certfications that tout the consumerization of IT and developing for the company's new, Metro-style Windows interface. The group's announcements were made officially at this week's Microsoft TechEd conference, taking place this week in Orlando.

Specifically, the group has announced two tracks so far, MCSD: Windows Metro Style Apps and MCSD: Web Applications. The MCSD: Metro is currently farther along in development, with some exams being made available at TechEd in beta format. It consists of two parallel tracks along the lines of HTML5 and C#. It breaks down as follows:

MCSD: Windows Metro Style Apps Using HTML5

  • 70-480: Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3
  • 70-481: Essentials of Developing Metro Style Apps Using HTML5 and JavaScript
  • 70-482: Advanced Metro Style App Development Using HTML5 and JavaScript

MCSD: Windows Metro Style Apps Using C#

  • 70-483: Programming in C#
  • 70-484: Essentials of Developing Metro Style Apps Using C#
  • 70-485: Advanced Metro Style Development Using C#

Exam 480 is expected to be in general release in August; 481 and 482 should be available in September. Exams 483, 484 and 485 are all expected to be released in October. Both tracks also have upgrade paths for those working toward the current MCPD certifications.
