Pop Quiz: Windows 8 UEFI Secure Boot

Applies to the "Configure backup and recovery options" objective of Exam 70-689.

Q: A company's technician needs to configure a new Windows 8 PC with UEFI secure boot.

Which of the following are requirements for UEFI secure boot? (Choose all that apply.)

  1. Hardware BIOS enabled
  2. 64-bit Windows 8
  3. Boot the PC in UEFI mode
  4. GPT partition structure

Answers are C and D. To install Windows 8 on a PC in the UEFI mode, press the key that opens the boot device menu and select UEFI USB drive. UEFI hard disks require a GUID partition table (GPT) partition instead of the master boot record (MBR) partition.

Quick Tip: Secure Boot does not require a Trusted Platform Module (TPM).
