Pop Quiz: Supporting BranchCache in Windows 8

Applies to the "Maintain resource access" objective of Exam 70-689.

Q: A company's administrator needs to check the BranchCache client computer settings on a desktop machine using PowerShell.

Which of the following PowerShell cmdlet can be used to verify BranchCache client computer settings?

  1. Enable-BCLocal
  2. Get-BCStatus
  3. Reset-BC
  4. Set-BCCache

Answer is B. The PowerShell cmdlet Get-BCStatus can be used to verify BranchCache client computer settings. The value BranchCacheIsEnabled should be True. The ClientSettings value for CurrentClientMode should be DistributedClient or HostedCacheClient depending upon the administrator chosen BranchCache mode.

Quick Tip: To refresh Group Policy on the client computer whose BrachCache configuration should be configured, use gpupdate /force. The net stop and net start peerdistsvc can be used to restart the BrachCache service for client computers configured in the hosted cache mode.
