Pop Quiz: Windows Server 2008 R2 Rights Management
Applies to the "Configuring Active Directory roles and services" objective of Exam 70-640.
Q: A company's data security team needs a network infrastructure that can support the ability for information authors to assign usage rights to data consumers.
Which of the following are typical usage rights that can be applied to network data? (Choose all that apply.)
- Printing
- Modify
- Saving
- Write
Answers are A and C. Windows Server 2008 R2 Rights Management Services (RMS) supports usage rights assigned to data by the original authors of the data, such as Printing, Copying/Pasting, Saving, and Forwarding (in the case of email).
Quick Tip: RMS works in a similar fashion to Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), except that instead of encrypting for the final recipient, documents are encrypted for the RMS server. When a user accesses a document, he or she requests access from the server which either grants or denies the request.
