Pop Quiz: Windows Server 2012 R2 WSUS Client-Side Targeting

Applies to the “Deploy, manage, and maintain servers” objective of Exam 70-411.

Q: A company's administrator needs to configure client-side targeting for new computers so that they add themselves to the correct computer group to receive WSUS updates.

Which of the following can be used to configure client-side targeting on new computers when adding them to WSUS computer groups? (Choose all that apply.)

  1. GPOs
  2. Registry entries
  3. AD CS
  4. AD FS

Answers are A and B. GPOs (Group Policy Objects) can be used for domain-joined computers and registry entries for non-domain joined computers, so that they add themselves to the correct WSUS computer groups to receive updates.

Quick Tip: Computer groups must be created using the WSUS console prior to configuring new computers using client-side targeting.
