Pop Quiz: Windows Server 2012 R2 Guest Clusters
Applies to the "Configure and manage high availability" objective of Exam 70-412.
Q: A company's administrator needs to configure a guest cluster to use shared VHDs.
Which of the following can be setup as shared VHDs for guest clusters? (Choose all that apply.)
- Data disks
- Disk witness
- Operating system virtual disk
- Host machine
Answer is A and B. Virtual hard disk files (in the .vhdx file format) can be shared between multiple virtual machines. These .vhdx files can be used as shared storage for a virtual machine failover cluster, also known as a guest cluster.
Quick Tip: Shared .vhdx storage provides a layer of abstraction that does not expose underlying storage arrays to users of the virtual machines.
