Pop Quiz: Windows 8.1 Updates and Power Options
Q: A company's IT security team needs to ensure that all Windows 8.1 devices receive all required updates each evening regardless of their individual Power Options settings.
Which of the following group policy settings will allow Windows 8.1 devices to receive required updates regardless of their Power Options settings?
- Re-prompt for restart with scheduled installations
- Enabling Windows Update Power Management to automatically wake up the system to install updates
- Turn on Software Notifications
- No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations
Answer is B. The group policy setting that will allow Windows 8.1 devices to receive required updates regardless of their Power Options settings is, Enabling Windows Update Power Management to automatically wake up the system to install updates.
Quick Tip: The computer will not wake unless there are updates to be installed. If the computer is on battery power, when Windows Update wakes it, it will not install updates and the computer will automatically return to hibernation in two minutes.
