Microsoft Reissues SQL Server 2004 SP1

Microsoft last week republished SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 1.

The service pack originally got released last month, but Microsoft pulled it on that same month because of an installation problem. The updated SP1 (build 12.0.4100.1) is now available at this download page, dated 5/14/2015.

Microsoft had indicated last month that organizations that had installed the flawed SP1 (build 12.0.4050.0) for SQL Server 2014 should just replace it with the new one when it arrived. However, Microsoft's "Release Notes" for SP1 specifically indicate that the flawed service pack needs to be removed first:

Note If you have version 12.0.4050.0 of SQL Server 2014 Service SP1 (KB3018269) installed, you must uninstall that update from all installation instances before you install this update.

Microsoft's original caveat and advice was located at this SQL Server blog post, but it seems to be updated as of this afternoon, with most of the background information deleted. It now states that the issue was "resolved." Update 5/18: Microsoft today restored the previously deleted information.

The original 4/22 post had indicated that there were 270 downloads of the flawed service pack. The flaw had caused SQL Server 2014 to become unusable. Users got an error message reading "Error: 912, Severity: 21, State: 2."

Microsoft's updated blog post now states that SQL Server 2014 SP1 will be available at MSDN and TechNet download sites, as well as at Microsoft's Volume Licensing center, "starting May 21, 2015."
