Strong consumer demand in the Far East drove second-quarter 2000 year-on-year worldwide PC unit growth of 14.5 percent, according to preliminary estimates from IDC. Worldwide PC shipments rose to 30.1 million, representing a seasonally expected sequential decline of 2.1 percent.

Server operating environment shipments will increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of almost 17 percent from 1999 to 2004. But revenues in the same market will remain almost flat with a CAGR of just over 1 percent, says a new report from market analysts IDC.

Microsoft announced revenue of $22.96 billion for the fiscal year 2000 that ended June 30, a 16 percent increase over the $19.75 billion reported last year. Net income totaled $9.42 billion, and diluted earnings per share were $1.70, a 20 percent increase over fiscal 1999's $1.42.

Microsoft officially announces development of exam for Win2K Advanced Server.
Microsoft has released a patch to eliminate a security vulnerability in Outlook and Outlook Express. Under certain conditions, the vulnerability could allow a hacker to cause code of his choice to execute on another user's computer.
