By 2012, smart phones that use a scaled-down variant of the open source Linux operating system will account for roughly 31 percent of all smart devices in the marketplace, according to ABI Research. Although Microsoft didn't mention it in today's announcement about the upcoming release of Windows Vista SP1, the company confirmed today that one of the major changes will be to open up desktop search functionality to competition.
