Windows 2000 Licenses to Hit 3 Million by End of June

Windows 2000 shipments are trending back upward.

At PC Expo in New York, Microsoft Corp. (www.microsoft.com) officials said they expected sales of Windows 2000 operating systems licenses to exceed 3 million by the end of June.

Windows 2000 bolted out of the gate in the first month after the Feb. 17 launch with 1 million licenses sold. In the second month sales slowed to 500,000 licenses.

The new figures indicate sales picked up modestly in the two months since then, although they don’t appear to be approaching the first month sales.

There is a slight element of apples to oranges comparisons. In the license sales for the first two months, Microsoft did not count enterprise agreements. The 3 million figure includes 250,000 licenses through enterprise agreements. Scott Bekker
