Microsoft Hit by DoS Attack

In a statement released on its Web site yesterday, Microsoft Corp. announced that it had been hit by a denial of service (DoS) attack against the routers that direct traffic to the company’s Web sites.

Microsoft was quick to point out that the DoS attack had nothing to do with Wednesday’s and Thursday’s Web site outages, which were a result of DNS problems.

Microsoft.com and MSN.com were the sites reported to have been hit by the attack.

In the statement, Microsoft said it had contacted the FBI and had taken “immediate steps” to bring the sites back online. – Isaac Slepner
