Microsoft Releases Visual Studio 6.0 SP5

Microsoft Corp. today released Service Pack 5 (SP5) for Visual Studio 6.0.

With all the recent focus on Visual Studio.NET, SP5 is an affirmation of Microsoft’s commitment to continuing to provide support for previous versions of its products.

SP5 is a cumulative culmination of SPs 1 through 4 and includes fixes for several Visual Studio applications, including Visual Studio Basic 6.0, Visual C++ 6.0, Visual FoxPro 6.0, Visual J++ 6.0 and Visual SourceSafe 6.0. In addition, SP5 addresses known binary-compatibility bugs with certain run-time redistributable files in Visual Studio 6.0 enabling SQL Server 2000 compatibility.

Although SP5 is not a required upgrade, Microsoft recommends that its customers investigate SP5’s documentation to determine whether to deploy it. The service pack is available at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/sp/vs6sp5/default.asp. - Isaac Slepner
