Unisys ES7000 Sets Record for mySAP.com Performance

The Unisys e-@ction Enterprise Server ES7000 supported the greatest number of mySAP.com Sales and Distribution (SD) benchmark users ever in a Windows environment today at the Intel Developers Forum in San Jose, Calif.

The test was the world’s first industry-standard benchmark of application performance and scalability in a Windows-based environment on a server with more than eight processors, according to Unisys Corp.

The test simulated a workload of 10,4000 SD benchmark users with an average dialog response time of 1.83 seconds, topping the previous SAP benchmark for a three-tiered Windows-based configuration. This is equivalent to processing 1,055,330 line items per hour. The results were derived using the SAP Standard Application Benchmark methodology, an industry-standard method of measuring server and application performance. The test simulates the maximum number of concurrent users supported by a system within acceptable response times.

The ES7000 used as the database server in the benchmark was configured with 16 700-MHz Intel Pentium III Xeon processors, 8 GB of memory and 16 MB of level 3 cache. The server ran Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server, Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition, and SAP r/3 Release 4.6C. CPU utilization was 99 percent. Forty-nine Unisys e-@ction Enterprise Server ES5085s, each with eight 700-MHz Intel Pentium III Xeon processors and 4 GB of memory, were also used in the test. CPU utilization on the application servers was 62 percent. Total disk space used was 880 GB.

The Unisys test configuration was connected over a Giganet cLAN VI network using cLAN1000 host bus adapters and cLAN5000 8-port cluster switches. Giganet cLAN network supports the Virtual Interface Architecture (VI), which enables application servers to communicate with database servers at very high speeds with ultra-low latency. – Isaac Slepner
