Microsoft Corp.
today announced the retail availability of BackOffice Server 2000, a suite of
tools designed to make maintaining the IT backbone much easier for medium-sized
businesses and branch offices that are deploying Windows 2000.
BackOffice 2000 includes the latest version of standard
editions of Windows 2000 Server, Exchange 2000 Server, SQL Server 2000, ISA
Server 2000, Systems Management Server 2.0, and Microsoft Host Integration
Server 2000.
One of the newest features in BackOffice Server 2000 is a
MultiServer deployment option. This option enables companies to install only
the BackOffice components they find necessary. As their business needs change,
they have the ability to add additional software components and remove the
components that are no longer needed.
Other new features include turnkey setup of Windows 2000
Server, the Active Directory service, and Exchange 2000 Server; an Internet
Connection Wizard that provides a simple method for configuring firewalls and
setting productivity permissions; and a Windows Terminal Server administration
that manages the suite remotely via a Web client or direct-dial remote access
services connection.
The estimated retail price of BackOffice Server 2000 with
five client access licenses is $3,999. – Jim
