A Santa Clara, Calif.-based startup is producing the equivalent of a neutron star in the ultra-dense server market.
E-Appliance Corp. this week announced an appliance with four self-contained individual Web servers packed into a standard 1U of rack space.
Each hot-swappable server has its own processor, memory, disk drive, power supply, USB port and three external Fast Ethernet ports.
The ultra-dense appliance is called the SuperScalar600. E-Appliance also plans to ship two other 1U servers. The SuperScalar1000 will contain two independent dual SMP servers in 1U of rack space. The SuperScalar500 is a more standard single server in a 1U space. The SuperScalar500 is dual-processor capable.
The SuperScalar600 will initially ship with Linux, although e-Appliance plans to add Windows 2000 as an option in the third quarter.
All the products start shipping in May.
