Mainsoft Corp. this week delivered on a promise to extend the platforms it supports with its Visual MainWin product for porting Windows applications to Unix and Linux. Target platforms new to the product are HP-UX, IBM AIX and Red Hat Linux.
Visual MainWin is the follow-on to Mainsoft's MainWin, which was used primarily for porting workstation applications such as CAD/CAM from Windows to other platforms.
With Visual MainWin, Mainsoft moved to a graphical interface and refocused on porting server applications.
Developers write an application in Visual Studio 6 or with C# and Visual MainWin does most of the work of converting the application to another platform.
The product first shipped in October with support for porting applications to Sun's Solaris.
