HP Ports SAP Clustering Software to W2K

Hewlett-Packard Co. ported its failure protection package for SAP ERP environments to the Windows 2000 platform, the company announced this week.

HP calls the package HP Somersault. It focuses on the SAP Enqueue Service, the central management point for the details of transactions within SAP ERP environments.

HP's approach is to mirror SAP transaction data so that when data loss is detected, work can be resumed with a duplicate copy. HP says the approach works even when the central SAP R/3 ERP application fails over within a Microsoft cluster.

HP introduced Somersault in August 2000 on its own HP-UX operating system. The port is the first to the Windows server platform.
