Netcraft finds that Microsoft Corp.'s fledgling ASP.NET was in use at about 1,500 Web sites in January.
"We currently find around 1,500 sites using .NET on the Internet, with the user base including Microsoft-owned sites, training companies, software consultancies, individual programmers experimenting with the technology, and traditional Microsoft enterprise partner early adopters such as Dell," Netcraft noted in its monthly report.
Microsoft will launch ASP.NET along with the rest of the .NET Framework and the Visual Studio.NET developer suite on Feb. 13. Microsoft posted the final code on the Microsoft Developer Network earlier this month.
Each month, Netcraft scours the Web to determine which Web servers and technologies are gaining or losing market share. Microsoft's IIS lost some overall market share in January after several months of gains, while the open source Apache Web server gained slightly in January, according to Netcraft.
