Fujitsu's U.S. subsidiary this week rolled out the second server in its line of Itanium 2 processor-based systems.
The new server is the Primergy RXI300, a rack-optimized server that is 2U high. Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Fujitsu Computer Systems is offering the Primergy RXI300 with Intel's 1.4-GHz or 1.6-GHz Itanium 2 processors, each featuring 3 MB of L3 cache. A high-end model comes with Intel's "Madison" generation of Itanium 2 processor, a 1.5-GHz version with 6 MB of L3 cache.
Fujitsu is promoting the server for use with 64-bit operating systems including Windows Server 2003, SUSE Linux and Red Hat Linux. The company has gotten the box certified for SAP R/3 with both Windows and Linux.
The systems start at $9,200.
Fujitsu's first Itanium 2 processor-based server shipped earlier this year. That system, the Primergy RXI600, is a four-way rack server.
