Duplicate Vista E-Mail Dilemma
If your Windows Mail client is sending duplicate versions of each mail message, here's how to fix it.
Chris: I've just set up a new computer running Vista and I'm getting
through all of the Microsoft issues of hardware that ran fine on Windows
XP but doesn't want to work with Vista. Now when I send e-mail, it seems
to be sending two e-mails at once to the same address and I can't figure
out why. I transferred my address book from XP over to Vista via an Easy
Transfer Cable. The data appears to be correct and my new address book
shows my name only once. Any ideas?

Upon hearing about Windows Mail sending duplicate e-mails, my first instinct
was that a duplicate mailbox account was configured in Vista Mail. After
Mike had setup Vista and configured his e-mail settings in Vista Mail,
he then used Windows Easy Transfer to copy his XP accounts, e-mail and
personal files to the new Windows Vista system.
Easy Transfer lived up to its name and easily transferred Mike's settings
and files from one system to another. However, with Vista Mail already
configured, a duplicate entry to the same mailbox was added to the Vista
Mail configuration. A quick check of Mike's system was able to confirm
the suspected bug. To resolve this problem, the following steps are needed:
- Log on to the Vista System and open Windows Mail.
- In Windows Mail, click the Tools menu and select Accounts.
- In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click one of the duplicate email
account listings and then click Remove.
- Click Close to close the Internet Accounts dialog box.
- Close Windows Mail.

Windows Easy Transfer is very helpful for cloning user settings and files
from one system to another. However, if you use this handy tool, just
be aware that it's possible that a duplicate setting or configuration
may be created if any personal settings were created on the new system
prior to the transferring of settings from the old system.
