Pop Quiz: Accessing a Remote Desktop Using a Web Browser

Applies to the "Plan and implement a remote desktop services infrastructure" objective of Exam 70-415.

Q: A company's help desk support team needs to include the network address in a communication memo to all remote employees that will allow them to connect to a Windows desktop using a web browser.

Which of following is the default Remote Desktop Web Access web site address?

  1. https://server_name/rdweb
  2. http://server_name/rdweb
  3. https://server_name/rdc
  4. http://server_name/rdp

Answer is A. https://server_name/rdweb is the Remote Desktop Web Access web site and can be accessed using at least Internet Explorer 6.0 and a version of Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) that supports at least Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) 6.1, which is found in Windows XP SP3 and above.

Quick Tip: All authenticated users can access the Remote Desktop Connection provided by an RD Web Access server. To change this, use Internet Information Services Manager to edit the permissions on the RDWeb virtual directory.
