SharePoint 2010: Configuring List Settings

Applies to the "Developing Web Parts and Controls" objective of Exam 70-573.

Q: When configuring SharePoint 2010 List Settings, which column must be indexed to display updates using the What's New Web Part?

  1. Version column
  2. Last updated column
  3. Content type column
  4. Modified column

Answer below.

Answer is D: The Modified column must be indexed to display List updates using the What's New Web Part.

SharePoint Lists and Libraries can be linked to a What's New Web Part by indexing the modified column. By default, this Web Part will show the date/time and name of the item as a hyperlink to it. When you check the box to "Show list name and modified user," it will add the name of the item's location, like "Shared Documents," in front of the item name, as well as the person's name.
